Planning of future DLR services – including extensions – is part of a London-wide strategy to manage growth in London. This strategy is developed across all parts of TfL and co-ordinated by TfL’s central Planning department.
Where the growth happens
The Mayor of London puts together the London Plan, a strategy for the way in which London should develop over the next 20-30 years. The London Plan identifies areas of Greater London where there is opportunity for additional jobs, more housing and regeneration. There is a particular focus on housing and employment growth in East London.
What transport is needed
The Mayor, through TfL, is also required to produce the Mayor’s Transport Strategy which sets out broadly what sort of transport services and improvements are needed to support the London Plan. This not only covers extensions and upgrades to the transport network, but also other areas such as safety, security, energy usage and the customer experience.
