As part of DLR’s Yourailway programme, Shadwell DLR station has recently undergone large scale refurbishment.

Improvements at Shadwell include:
- Refurbishment of the existing arches
- Improved access and security
- Creation of a new station forecourt at street level
- Installation of public art
- Provision of cycle parking

Option Development
A series of options were explored for improving the arches and station environment on the approach to Shadwell station. In consultation with key local groups these were developed into distinct phases of work.
Phase 1 – These works have been completed
- Stripping out ceiling cladding and redundant cabling and drainage pipes
- Cleaning and repointing the existing brickwork
- Creating new drainage and cable ducts at ground level
- Provision and relocation of new kiosk unit replacing
existing unit - Deep cleaning of station area
Phase 2 – These works have been completed
- Repaving station floor
- Widening main station archway entrance
- Installing signage including an electronic passenger information display at concourse level
- Additional CCTV cameras
- New lighting and glazed screening
- Installing a ceiling lining to improve drainage and
natural light - Repointing of the stairs to be more visible and align with archway widening
- Lift upgrade including new lift call point and works to improve the visibility of the lift
Phase 3 – These works have been completed
- One main arch at the station to be refurbished and brought into commercial use
- Landscaping to immediate square north of station area including a new cycle shelter with artwork and photo voltaic (solar) panels (Cycling Strategy)
- Two public art spaces developed within the station, one for a permanent art work, the other for temporary exhibitions (Public Art)
