Planning for the future - Increasing capacity on the DLR network
Docklands Light Railway Limited (DLRL) is proposing to increase the capacity of the DLR line between Bank and Lewisham. The preferred option is to introduce longer trains.
This will require longer station platforms, strengthening of viaducts and bridges, new railcars and depot expansion at Beckton. In early March 2004 DLRL plan to submit an Order under the Transport and Works Act 1992 seeking the authorisation required to begin the construction works associated with the project. All being well, the longer trains could be running between Bank and Lewisham by 2009.
In November 2002 DLRL distributed over 80,000 leaflets to residents, businesses and passengers. To follow this up, DLRL has arranged three open days where members of the public can view proposals and meet the project team who will be on hand to answer any questions you may have concerning the project. You are welcome to come along to any of the three venues listed below.
The open days will take place on:
Monday 09 February 2004 - The Cape Breton Room, Cabot Hall,
Cabot Place West, Canary Wharf, London E14 5AB (12noon to 8pm)
Wednesday 11 February 2004 - Piper Room, Forum at Greenwich,
Trafalgar Road, London SE10 9EQ (2pm to 8pm)
Monday 16 February 2004 - Room 4, Lewisham Town Hall,
Catford Road, London SE6 4RU (2pm to 8pm)
