Next Stage of DLR's Capacity Enhancement Project

Docklands Light Railway is planning to submit a Transport and Works Act Order application for its £130 million capacity enhancement project by the end of February. If the application is approved, work could start in 2007.

The project will culminate in three-car trains running between Bank and Lewisham by 2009 but in order to achieve this, some viaducts will need to be strengthened and platforms lengthened. The result of the public consultation carried out in November 2002 was very positive and many of those who responded to DLR asked to be kept informed of progress. Now that this important stage has been reached, DLR is ready to show residents how the project will proceed.

2500 leaflets are being distributed to households along the Bank/Tower Gateway to Lewisham route and meetings are being held between 9 and 16 February in Lewisham, Greenwich and in Cabot Hall at Canary Wharf. Full details will be advertised in the local press and can be found on the DLR website www.dlr.co.uk

The railway is now carrying approximately 50 million passengers a year and DLR expects this to rise to 80 million by 2009 as Docklands continues to expand.
