Construction

Taylor Woodrow

Construction to enable DLR to operate three-carriage trains has commenced. The main design and build contract was awarded to Taylor Woodrow on 3 May 2007.

The work involves extending station platforms, including remodeling Tower Gateway station, building a new station 200m to the east of the existing South Quay station, removing the old South Quay station, strengthening of the viaducts and constructing two new railway junctions adjacent to Poplar Station and Canning Town stations to improve train movements at these busy locations.

Taylor Woodrow has set up their offices adjacent to West India dock and at Canning Town junction.

Phase 1 and 2 of the project will be complete by 2010. Construction to convert the Beckton route to three-carriage operation will be completed by 2011.
