Docklands Light Railway - South Quay Station
Skip to navigationNew DLR South Quay station
The new DLR station at South Quay is now open. The station, which opened on Monday 26 October, replaces the old South Quay station, which will be demolished.
The new station
- Longer platforms with more space and seating.
- Full-length canopies for improved weather protection.
- Access via a lift and two sets of escalators and stairs for each platform.
- Provision for three-carriage trains, giving 50 per cent more on-board capacity and more comfortable journeys.
The majority of DLR stations between Bank and Lewisham have been extended to allow three-carriage trains to operate from early 2010. Because the old South Quay station was built between two curves on the track, these platforms could not be lengthened.
The new station is situated 125m east of the old station where there is a straight section of track. It is ready to accommodate three-carriage trains.
Latest news: DLR station ‘moves’ at the weekend.
