Docklands Light Railway - Station Improvement Works

What Next

  • All stations across the network have received or will be receiving a face lift before the Games. The whole East route has been done and works, to include a repaint, canopy repairs, new seats, new information cases and improvements to lighting, are planned at a number of other stations.

At Custom House for ExCeL two escalators have been installed between the platform and the high level walkway. During the Games Custom House will be an arrival only station and the escalators will help to clear the platform more quickly allowing a higher frequency train service to operate. Day to day it will allow higher frequency services to operate on busy event days.

A second entrance to the westbound platform is proposed to reduce passenger congestion around the existing platform entrance at Royal Victoria Station.

Some additional platform space is being created at Canning Town by decking over part of the escalator voids on the upper DLR platforms. In addition a new temporary stair is planned to provide another route between the old and new DLR platforms during the Games  This will allow more people to change trains at this station during the Games. Lasting benefits of the additional platform space will be a more comfortable waiting environment on the DLR platforms at the busiest times.
